When GRP is the right call
These are the roofs where fibreglass beats every other flat roof option.
Felt that blisters every summer
If the old felt bubbles and splits each hot spell, patching is money down the drain. A GRP laminate cures hard and ends the yearly repair bill.
A dormer with awkward corners
Dormer cheeks, box gutters and odd little upstands are hard to dress in sheet materials. Liquid resin and glass mat follow every angle with no joins.
Roof lanterns to seal around
Kerbs around lanterns and skylights leak on tired flat roofs. GRP laminates up the kerb and bonds to it, closing the gap completely.
A roof you step onto
Balconies and roofs you climb onto for window cleaning need a hard surface. GRP takes foot traffic, and an anti-slip topcoat adds grip underfoot.
Stains under the extension
Staining on the ceiling below an extension roof means water is through the deck. That is the moment to strip it, fix the timber and lay fibreglass.

Deck, trims, laminate, topcoat
It starts with a new deck of OSB3 or plywood boards, screwed down tight, with every board joint taped so movement in the timber never shows through the laminate. Then the GRP trims go on: drip trims along the gutter edge, raised kerb trims on the open edges and wall trims where the roof meets the house. Trims go on first, so the laminate wraps over them and the whole roof becomes one piece.
Next comes the laminate. We roll catalysed polyester resin into chopped strand mat, working out every air bubble so the glass is fully wetted through, and carry it up the upstands and over the trims. Once that has cured, the topcoat goes on: a pigmented resin that gives the colour and the finish and shields the laminate from UV. We watch the forecast closely, because resin wants a dry deck to cure hard.
- New OSB3 or ply deck with taped joints
- GRP drip, kerb and wall trims
- Resin and chopped strand mat, rolled bubble-free
- Laminate carried up every upstand
- Pigmented topcoat against UV
- Old roof and offcuts cleared away

Why GRP suits Brighton's extensions and dormers
Walk the back lanes of Brighton and Hove and you see the same picture: kitchen extensions on Victorian terraces, loft dormers on slate roofs, and garages behind the 1930s semis. They are small, fiddly roofs with lots of edges, which is exactly where fibreglass earns its keep. On the coast, salt spray and strong UV off the sea wear unprotected felt out fast. A properly topcoated GRP roof stands up to both and still looks sharp from the bedroom window.
Why people ring us back
Great service for flat & tiled roof repair. Professional and knowledgeable advice on works required. Good management which gave quick response and completion of works required.
We had an issue with a leak coming from our chimney and on getting up there realised our flat roof had been installed poorly. Brendan was so professional throughout, talking us through everything and not pressuring us to make quick decisions regarding the repair. His team were very efficient and got the job done in 2 days. Brendan kept me updated throughout the job, sending photos of the work. His team left the place spotless, even washing down the roof on completion. Having had a few quotes from some rather suspect companies, these guys are so genuine and clearly take pride in doing the job well. Would recommend and call again if needed.
Lovely man came to do my roof, we had a massive hole down the centre, saw two three different roofers and they all gave ridiculous quotes, this was affordable, reasonable, and a very quick and safe process, highly recommend everyone to give them a call
If you have any roofing work or repairs to be done, then look no further than Sureseal Roofing & Guttering. I have found William and his team to be responsive & professional. They were able to address all my queries and advise wherever necessary. Most importantly their standard of finished work measured upto what had been committed, as well as my expectations of high quality. I whole-heartedly recommend their work.
The owner and his team provided a great quotation, fair pricing, and excellent communication. I recently had my garage roof repaired and was very satisfied. The work was completed efficiently and to a high standard. Highly recommended!
Lovely people, definitely use this company gain. Job was done very quick and highly recommend to everyone looking to get their roof fixed! 🙏🏼🔥
What drives the price of a GRP roof
GRP is measured by the square metre of laminate, but the number that matters is the total, and that depends on what sits under the old roof. A dormer with three cheeks and a lantern takes more trims and more hand work than a plain garage roof of the same area. Our quote lists the deck, trims, laminate and topcoat line by line, so you can see where every pound goes.
What sets the price
- Roof area in square metres
- Number of edges and trim runs
- Upstands, lanterns and skylights
- Deck boards to replace
- Topcoat colour or anti-slip finish
- How easily we can reach the roof
No surprises: the price on your written quote is the price you pay. No deposit.

GRP fibreglass roofing questions
Is GRP better than felt for a flat roof?
For extensions and dormers, yes. GRP cures into one hard piece with no seams or laps, so there is nothing to split or blister in the summer heat. Felt costs less up front and still has its place on garages and sheds. If you walk on the roof, have lots of awkward corners or want a clean finish you can see from upstairs, fibreglass is worth the extra.
Can you walk on a GRP roof?
Yes. A GRP roof laid on a solid deck takes normal foot traffic for window cleaning, gutter checks and maintenance without harm. If you plan to use it as a balcony or terrace, we add an anti-slip topcoat for grip and tell you what furniture needs pads under its feet. Just avoid dragging heavy items across it or dropping sharp tools.
What colour can a GRP roof be?
Grey is the standard topcoat and suits most homes. Because the topcoat is pigmented resin, we can order other colours too: tell us what you want when we quote and we will price it in. The colour runs right through the topcoat, so there is no paint to flake off and nothing to redo in a few years.
Can GRP go on a porch or a small dormer?
Yes, and it is one of the best materials for small roofs. A porch canopy or dormer top has a lot of edge compared with its area, and GRP trims with a laminate wrapped over them give a tidy, watertight finish. Sheet materials need more joins on a small roof, which means more places for water to get in.
Why do some GRP roofs crack?
Cracks come from how the roof was laid, not from the material. The main causes are a deck that moves because boards were not taped or fixed down, laminate that was too thin, resin laid in damp or cold conditions, and trims fitted without room to move. We tape every board joint, use the right weight of mat and only laminate in proper conditions.
Can a GRP roof be repaired?
Yes. A crack or impact hole is ground back, re-laminated with fresh resin and mat, and topcoated to match. The repair bonds into the old laminate rather than sitting on top of it, so it holds. If the cracking is widespread because the deck underneath is failing, we show you the photos and price both the repair and a new roof so you can choose.
